The Director of Strategy & Business Development will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the business development activities. The successful applicant will also be responsible for monitoring the implementation of the company’s business strategies and ensuring all departments are executing their objectives to meet the corporate objectives.
The Director will be a member of the Executive Management team and will report directly to the CEO. The Director will have a Business Development Analyst reporting in.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate the Strategy & Business Development Department’s activities, aiming at identifying, analyzing and recommending specific business opportunities for the profitable growth and diversification.
- Manage the development of the department guidelines, policies & procedures.
- Coordinate the strategic planning process.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of plans to support the strategic vision and direction established by the Board of Directors.
- Assist departments such as HR & Corporate Services, Marketing & Sales, Finance, etc. in development of their strategic and operational objectives.
- Opportunity Identification & Concept Development
- Coordinate the identification of specific business opportunities for the profitable growth and diversification of the company through acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures.
- Coordinate the identification of suitable project development projects inline with the company’s strategic and business plan.
- Coordinate the review and screening of business opportunities / projects based on:
- Fit with the mission, vision, and strategic business plan
- Identify suitable sites for potential projects
- Assist in drawing up initial development ideas and concepts for projects.
- Assist in determining investment requirements for the business opportunity / project and arrange for funding in coordination with the Finance Department.
- Assist in formulating, in coordination with the CEO, an investment / project strategy with clear goals and a clear direction.
- Coordinate the conduct of a detailed evaluation that appraises the feasibility and viability of new business opportunities / projects with regard to:
- Market and demand studies
- Competitor analysis and market entry strategy
- Financial evaluation and budget
- Social, economic, and environmental impact
- Acquisition, Divestiture, JV’s
- Coordinate the conduct of research on potential acquisition targets and partners by requesting and utilizing market research from the Marketing Research Specialist.
- Coordinate the acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures processes.
- Assist in identifying appropriate strategic partners to drive various growth initiatives.
- Coordinate the integration of the businesses (acquisitions, joint ventures, etc…)
- Coordinate the relationship with external advisors and consultants that will provide advice (financial, market, legal, etc…) to assist in evaluating new business opportunities.
- Provide advice, guidance, direction, and authorization to personnel to carry out major plans and procedures, consistent with established policies.
- Communicate and discuss the section’s guidelines and procedures with employees to ensure responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities are defined and understood.
- Delegate some responsibilities to appropriate subordinates in order to benefit from smooth running of the section’s operation.
- Provide guidance and leadership to all section employees to ensure effective and efficient flow of work, and ensure all employees recognize their fundamental role in the section.
- Conduct annual performance appraisal to review employees’ work performance.
- Recommend salary adjustments, rewards and promotions based on employee performance. Carry out disciplinary meetings when needed.
- Monitor the adherence of section employees to the company’s guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Ensure effective sectional performance through the selection, development, deployment and motivation of competent staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s Degree is preferred) with a minimum of 15 years of related experience.
- Executive-level business development and strategic planning experience is required (5+ years).
- Real Estate development experience is required.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate organization-wide initiatives.
- Proficiency in both English and Arabic Languages.
